There is also a range finder feature when focusing with the viewfinder.

I'm sure the "range finder" is the same as the D - just the normal green led in the viewfinder that you see in AF mode. I use it sometimes for tripod bird pics. I auto focus on feeding station then switch to Manual, check focus and then go away and shoot via remote.

I know the focus will stay where I want it and not be affected by birds just out of main pic area. Actually, there is a Rangefinder setting "a4" you can turn ON in the D which can be used in most modes except Manual.
